Pedaling for Prevention Bike Tour

Use the Email link below to send this letter to your family and friends to ask them to help support you by making a pledge to the Bike Tour in your name:

Dear Family and Friends,

On Sunday, June 22, 2008 I am participating in the 2nd Annual “Pedaling for Prevention” Bike Tour.  The event includes a 40, 25 and 10 mile ride through Morris and Somerset counties and will raise money for The Burn Center at Saint Barnabas Medical Center where hundreds of burn survivors are treated each year. I am asking my family and friends to help me raise money for this great cause by making a pledge in my name to the Saint Barnabas Burn Foundation.

Some important facts about The Burn Center and the Burn Foundation:

  • The Burn Center at Saint Barnabas is the only certified burn treatment facility in the State; ranked within the top 10 of all burn centers nationally
  • Treats more than 400 inpatients annually; thousands more in their outpatient clinic
  • Over 40% of all patients treated are under 5 years of age
  • Educates over 25,000 school children annually on fire safety and burn prevention
  • Educates over 4,100 firefighters and first-line responders on burn care

Last year’s event raised $18,000.  I hope you can help me double that amount with your pledge of a gift. It’s easy to support me and this important charity!

  • Make a donation online with your credit card by visiting www.njburncenter.com and selecting the link to “Pedaling for Prevention Bike Tour”
  • Make your check payable to Saint Barnabas Burn Foundation and mail directly to 94 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, NJ  07039
  • Give me the check (payable to Saint Barnabas Burn Foundation) and I’ll bring it with me the day of the event. If you choose to write a check, be sure to include “bike tour” and my name on the memo line so I’ll get the credit.

Thanks for your support!

P.S. The Burn Center would like you to stay burn free this summer, so they are passing along a few tips:

  • Follow manufacturer’s instructions for proper hook-up and operation of propane gas grills.  Always keep children away from grill.
  • Never pour starter fluid, and especially gasoline, onto burning coals to avoid “flash back” of flames.
  • Avoid direct sun between 10 am and 2 pm and remember to apply sun block every few hours.
  • Cover car seats with cloth to prevent burns from overheated materials.
  • Don’t take chances; seek immediate shelter during a storm. Lightning is the second leading cause of weather-related injuries in the United States.
